Back in in August 2010, People’s Collection Wales was launched with the aim of becoming a collaborative record of the history of the people of Wales. The website wanted to give people across the country the opportunity to contribute their own stories of life in Wales to a collection which could be discovered by others across the world.

It’s fair to say that to date, the Collection has been embraced by the people of Wales. Remarkably over 47,000 items- from old menus from Italian cafes to photographs of male voice choirs on world tours- have been shared and seen by over 19,000 unique visitors who spend time on the site each month.

As technology develops, we’re keen to improve your experience on the site. We’re currently working hard behind the scenes on a number of improvements which will make it easier for you to search for and upload content.

Improvements include:

  • Increasing the ease and effectiveness for uploading single items and batches of items

  • Improving the search facility

  • A better user profile page for sharing digital content

  • Developing a dashboard for contributors to measure the number of visitors and other metrics related to content they share

  • Improving performance on mobile and tablet devices.

We’re planning to have these improvements ready by Autumn 2013 and will post a follow up blog, explaining how you can make the most of improved functionality when launched.

The Collection will only continue to grow through your contributions. We thank you for your patience as we work to improve your experience on the site.
